The Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation (BJHF) and the Washington University (WU) Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences (ICTS) announce the 5th annual BJHF/ICTS Clinical and Translational Research Funding Program.

Program Purpose: The primary purpose of this program is to fund high quality, innovative proposals that have the potential to promote the translation of scientific discoveries into improvements in human health.

Eligibility: Investigators applying for this funding must be members of the ICTS. Member eligibility information and registration are available at Applications from new investigators are particularly encouraged. (Additional eligibility requirements are detailed in the RFA.)

Proposal Submission Guidelines: Basic guidelines for 2012 applications are:

• Awards will be made for One Year Pilot Grants Only: starting June 1, 2013 and ending May 31, 2014. Pilot grants are typically used to fund developmental or early stage work, including pilot data, and should describe a concrete plan for further steps beyond the pilot grant.
• Awards will provide up to $50,000 direct costs for 1 year to facilitate the planning of a new clinical and/or translational research project. (Note: funds must be used for research within the 12 month award period, no extensions will be permitted.)
Applications must propose projects that support one or more of the following themes:
o Improving the Quality of Patient Care
o Enhancing Patient Safety
o Improving Patient Outcomes
o Improving Transfer to Practice
o Translating Genetic/Genomic Findings
o Developing/Evaluating Therapeutics

Letters of Intent Deadline: August 20, 2012 (5 pm CST)
Applications Deadline: October 10, 2012 (5 pm CST)
Proposal Peer Review: December, 2012
Award Start Date: June 1, 2013
