Overview

The Bakewell Neuromaging Laboratory provides access to high-quality equipment and technical support for optical imaging, including confocal and multiphoton microscopy.

Location

The Bakewell NeuroImaging Laboratory Facility is in rooms 464/461 of the McDonnell Science Building. The facility is on the 4th floor, accessible via the Seashell lobby elevators. Upon exiting the elevators, follow the left hand hallway past the Dept. of Anatomy & Neurobiology faculty sign.

Services

The BNIL has three Olympus multichannel confocals, a Zeiss 2-photon/confocal microscope, a Washington University Researcher built (2-channel) multiphoton only workstation, an epi-fluorescence microscope with CCD camera, and a Metamorph offline image analysis workstation.

Facilities

The BNIL has three Olympus multichannel confocals, a Zeiss 2-Photon/Confocal, a Washington University Researcher built (2-channel) multiphoton only workstation, a epi-fluorescence only ccd camera and a Metamorph offline image analysis workstation.

  • Olympus FV500a Available lasers include: Multi-line Argon (458/488/515nm: blueline for green shifted samples), Krypton (greenline for red shifted samples), a 633nm HeNe (for far red samples) & a Helium-Cadmium (442nm He-Cad) for (cfp (blue)range samples)
  • Olympus FV500b Available lasers include: Multi-line Argon (458/488/515nm), Krypton (greenline for red shifted samples), a 633nm HeNe (for far red samples) & a Helium-Cadmium (442nm He-Cad) for (cfp range samples)the Fv500b utilizes an x-y piezio-electric stage.
  • Olympus FV1000 Available lasers include: Multi-line Argon (458/488/515nm), 543nm HeNe (greenline for red shifted samples), a 633nm HeNe (for far red samples) as well as fret & frap capabilities. *The Fv1000 has a slightly different software (screen) interface and may require some initial assistance.
  • 2futon (multiphoton) Tsunami pump Laser ( manual tune-able wavelength range of ~790 to 990nm)
  • Zeiss 2Photon LSM510 NLO uses a Mai Tai broadband IR laser tuneable from (790 to 950mnm), also Metascan: Multi-line Argon (458/477/488/514nm: blueline for green shifted samples) 543nm HeNe ( greenline for red shifted samples), a 633nm HeNe (for far red samples) available for scans on both upright(Axioskop) and inverted(axiovert) microscope configurations on a rotating basis.
  • Epi-Fluorescence Review Station [Zeiss Axiocam] & Biorad MRC-1024 confocal [a two channel confocal with multi-line argon and krypton laser.] share a common platform & location. The Zeiss Axiocam Station is a color CCD on a BXI-50 microscope utilizing Zeiss axiocam capture software.
