ICTS/Hope Center JIT Funding Opportunity

A collaborative funding opportunity to subsidize core user fees for costly genetics/genomics experiments Read More

About

The current Just-in-Time (JIT) funding program from the Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences (ICTS) provides up to $5000 towards user fees for an ICTS-affiliated core.  For details on that ICTS program, click here.  To complement that program, the Hope Center is pleased to announce a new initiative in collaboration with the ICTS:  JIT funding up to $10,000 for proposals with a genetics/genomics approach.

Goals of the new ICTS/Hope Center JIT program

Through the new ICTS/Hope Center JIT program, the Hope Center aims to promote research that is consistent with its mission, and enable access to cutting-edge technologies. A successful ICTS/Hope Center JIT application will be designed to investigate molecular mechanisms of nerve cell degeneration and/or a possible therapeutic mechanism to address neurodegeneration, based on a genetics approach that will be tested through use of an ICTS-affiliated core. Examples include a sequencing project using the Genome Technology Access Center (GTAC), or experiments to manipulate genetic expression using the Transgenic Vectors Core. This program is intended for projects where anticipated core user fees are in excess of $5,000 (the amount currently available through the existing ICTS JIT mechanism). If anticipated user fees are $5000 or less, the proposal can be submitted via the existing ICTS JIT program.

Eligibility

The new ICTS/Hope Center JIT program is designed to complement the existing ICTS JIT program, such that all existing instructions for the ICTS JIT program apply to this new program. Additionally, applicants must be faculty members of the Hope Center. In other words, applicants must be faculty members of the ICTS and the Hope Center in order to apply for an ICTS/Hope Center JIT award.

The application can describe use of any core that is included on the list of ICTS-affiliated cores, provided that the project is consistent with the goals of this new program (see “Goals” above).

How to apply

Applications for an ICTS/Hope Center JIT award will use the same form and instructions as an ICTS JIT application, with some modifications.  For the application link, go to the JIT Core Usage Funding Program webpage  AND NOTE specific instructions below:

Under “Budget Details”:

  • In describing “Core Services”, please indicate “Hope Center” to show requested amounts over and above $5000.
  • For the line item “Total ICTS JIT Request”, indicate the total request up to $10,000.

On the “PI Request Justification” form, “4. Project Specifics” A-D, add:

  • E. Justification that this project is consistent with the Hope Center mission.

Timing and deadlines

The new ICTS/Hope Center JIT program, like the existing ICTS JIT program, is a rolling monthly process with the same core approval mechanisms and deadline:  A core must approve an application before 5p on the 10th of the month in order for the application to be considered in that month.  Refer to “Mechanisms” on the JIT Core Usage Funding Program webpage.

Award

For this new ICTS/Hope Center JIT program, the Hope Center and ICTS each will contribute funds such that the total amount available is $10,000.  Funds will not be dispersed to the awardee but, instead, essentially will be a voucher.  Funds will be available for up to one year.

Additional Information

Applications that are deemed ineligible for the ICTS/Hope Center award will still be considered for an ICTS JIT award (with a total award amount up to $5000).
