Biology of ion channels, with emphasis on the molecular basis of potassium channel activity, and the role of potassium channels in physiology and disease

Research in my laboratory is focused on the biology of ion channels, with emphasis on the molecular basis of potassium channel activity, and the role of potassium channels in physiology and disease. Using various molecular biological and biophysical approaches, we are developing a detailed understanding of the structural basis of channel activity. Using gene manipulation approaches, as well as human patient studies, we are developing understanding of the role of potassium channels in various disease processes, including mechanisms of epilepsy and pathologic neurovascular control.
