Neuropathology in the developing brain
Research in the Noguchi lab broadly deals with neuropathology in the developing brain. Due to the intricate ontogenetic processes that occur during brain formation, the developing brain is highly susceptible to a variety of insults. This includes drug induced neuropathology produced by clinical medications (e.g. anesthetics, anticonvulsants, and sedatives) and drug abuse (e.g. ethanol or electronic cigarette using during pregnancy). We also study how infection from viruses (Zika virus, mpox virus) during pregnancy can affect fetal neurodevelopment.
